IPL 2026 Predictions: The Top 4 Teams

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the most evenly contested cricket leagues in the world. Eight franchises have won the league in its 18 seasons, and the likes of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) have reached the playoffs in more than 10 seasons. However, that doesn’t mean these franchises are likely to make the playoffs, as CSK and MI have qualified only twice in the last five seasons.

This blog predicts four franchises that could finish in the top four of the IPL 2026 season.

IPL 2026

The 19th edition of the IPL begins three weeks after the T20 World Cup concludes. Franchises will be wary of their international stars’ fitness. It could play a massive role in defining their season. Franchises with a fully fit 25-member squad are definitely top-four contenders.

Based on player availability, team combination, quality of overseas and uncapped players, here’s our IPL 2026 top-four predictions:

  1. Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals (DC) haven’t made the playoffs since finishing top of the points table in the 2022 season. They couldn’t make the cut despite winning five of their six opening matches last season. However, things look brighter for the Axar Patel-led side this time around.

At the IPL 2026 auction, DC acquired proven international stars such as David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Ben Duckett, and Pathum Nissanka. Ngidi had a terrific T20 World Cup campaign, while Miller has plenty of IPL experience under his belt. In Duckett and Nissanka, the Capitals have an explosive opening pair.

The batting department is further strengthened by the presence of KL Rahul, Tristan Stubbs, Nitish Rana, and the uncapped Ashutosh Sharma and Sameer Rizvi. Rahul is just 161 runs away from 4000 IPL runs.

The bowling unit is DC’s biggest strength. Axar and Kuldeep Yadav lead the spin attack, while the pace attack consists of Mitchell Starc, Ngidi, Kyle Jamieson, Dushmantha Chameera, Mukesh Kumar, and T Natarajan. Jammu and Kashmir’s Aquib Dar, who took 60 wickets in this Ranji Trophy season, is another bowler to watch out for in IPL 2026.

If their pace bowlers stay fit for the entire season, DC are most likely to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2022. They have the batting firepower and plenty of match-winners in the bowling unit.

  1. Mumbai Indians

MI is one of the favourites to become the first to win six IPL titles. The champion franchise has one of the most experienced squads in the 2026 season. From Hardik Pandya to Trent Boult, there are many impact players in Mumbai’s squad.

The Rohit Sharma-led batting unit has enough quality. De Kock’s return means Rohit has found an able opening partner. Ryan Rickleton and Naman Dhir are other opening options. Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Sherfane Rutherford add depth to the batting department.

MI also boasts quality all-rounders. Skipper Hardik is expected to play a major role with the ball, while there is New Zealand T20 skipper Mitchell Santner, the reliable Will Jacks, and the experienced Shardul Thakur.

Jasprit Bumrah is the key in a bowling unit that includes new-ball experts Boult and Deepak Chahar. Corbin Bosch and uncapped Ashwani Kumar are the other pace options. Santner, Afghanistan’s Allah Ghazanfar, Mayank Markande, and Jacks are the familiar names in the spin attack.

With a squad like this, it would be a shame if MI fails to make the playoffs. If they do finish in the top four, the question will be, can Hardik Pandya’s men lift a record sixth IPL trophy?

  1. Gujarat Titans

The IPL 2023 winners, Gujarat Titans, will be keen to make back-to-back top-four finishes. Led by Shubman Gill, the Titans have a batting unit that is a treat for the Titans faithful – Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler, and Tom Banton. Adding big-hitters Glenn Phillips, Shahrukh Khan, and Jason Holder to the mix makes the Titans even more dangerous.

If the batting department is full of exciting players, the Titans’ bowling unit is world-class. Rashid Khan is the chief in the spin attack, with Washington Sundar, Manav Suthar, Jayant Yadav, etc., bringing in plenty of variety.

Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada headline the pace unit. Both players featured in the T20 World Cup. Red-ball specialist Ishant Sharma, 2025 Purple Cap winner Prasidh Krishna, and England’s Luke Wood are the other key bowlers in the squad.

The Titans have what it takes to finish in the top four again, and their fans will be hoping for nothing less than that in the upcoming season.

  1. Sunrisers Hyderabad

Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen, and Ishan Kishan – now that’s an explosive batting line-up. Sunrisers Hyderabad will heavily rely on them in the upcoming season. If the four can fire, the Sunrisers are definitely going to be in the playoffs. Liam Livingstone, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Kamindu Mendis, and Abdul Samad are the other quality batters in the squad.

The Sunrisers’ bowling department has an exciting blend of youth and experience. Pat Cummins, who missed the T20 World Cup, had a decent outing in the 2025 season. Seasoned campaigners Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel have picked over 250 IPL wickets between them. England international Brydon Carse and Sri Lanka’s Eshan Malinga, too, will be keen to make their mark.

The spin unit lacks an experienced spinner and will be heavily relied upon on left-arm spinner Harsh Dubey, who has just five IPL outings under his belt. It is also an opportunity for uncapped spinners Zeeshan Ansari and Krains Fuletra to impress. Part-time spinners like Livingstone, Abhishek, and Kamindu are also likely to be involved.

Barring the inexperienced spin attack, SRH ticks all the boxes this season. If the Sunrisers can start their season well, they will likely make the playoffs.

Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are our pick of teams that could fight for the highly prized T20 league in the world.
